The quality of one’s life and relationships is directly a function of one’s communications. We want to participate fully in life. We want to be heard, have what we say matter, and be effective and appreciated.
We want to participate fully in our families, work and community.
We want to express ourselves to reflect our vision of our humanity and ourselves.
Communication is the key to producing these results in life.
Why is communication so important? Because communication is the name we’ve given to one of the most powerful aspects of living. Virtually every problem, incompletion and inconsistency in life can be approached as a problem of communication.More than 60% of our daily activities can be classified as communication activities.
Communication in its most fundamental sense is not the exchange of symbols or information. It is not a collection of skillful communication techniques, and it’s not persuasion. Communication is not saying what you really think, nor is it merely a lucky accident based on sincerity or good intention.
True communication is a creation. It moves people. It generates experiences in others. True communication not only delivers information to others, it actually transforms their ability to hear. True communication transforms both the speaker and the listener. True communication results in action.
Effective communication allows a group of individuals to shift to an inspired and enthusiastic team, which produces results and finds joy and satisfaction in their work together.
